Pakwach, Uganda: Police in Pakwach District are investigating a serious road crash allegedly caused by reckless overtaking, involving a surveyor attached to ALPH Surveyors LTD.
The accident occurred on February 16, 2026, at approximately 2:30pm along the Nebbi–Karuma Road opposite the Ginnery in Pakwach Town.
According to West Nile Regional Police Spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia, the collision involved a silver Isuzu NPR motor vehicle, registration number UBK 182K, driven by Arao Ritah Janet, 32, a surveyor employed by ALPH Surveyors LTD in Lira.
The other vehicle was a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UEW 337H, ridden by Mokonge Alfred, 29, a resident of Afukafuka Village in Alwi Sub-county, Pakwach District.
Head-On Collision During Overtaking
Police allege that the Isuzu NPR was travelling from Nebbi towards Karuma when it approached a slow-moving Sino Truck ahead.
“Upon reaching Pakwach Town opposite the Ginnery, the Impereza driver attempted to overtake the Sino Truck, resulting in a head-on collision with the oncoming motorcycle UEW 337H,” SSP Angucia stated.
The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Pakwach Health Centre IV for treatment.
Police officers visited and documented the scene before towing both vehicles to Pakwach Central Police Station for inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles.
Reckless Overtaking Suspected
Preliminary investigations point to improper and careless overtaking as the primary cause of the crash.
The case has been registered under Pakwach CPS Traffic Accident Reference (TAR) 007/2026, and inquiries are ongoing.
Police have reiterated their call to motorists to strictly observe road safety regulations, especially during overtaking, warning that reckless manoeuvres continue to account for a significant proportion of serious road accidents across the country.
