Kampala, Uganda: The Manager of the Office of the NRM National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has called on Muslims across the country to embrace Ramadan as a season of repentance, discipline and spiritual renewal.
Namyalo, who also serves as Senior Presidential Advisor and Political Assistant to President Yoweri Museveni, said the holy month offers believers an opportunity to strengthen their faith, moral values and connection to Almighty Allah.
“Ramadan is a period of repentance, self-reflection and forgiveness. It is a time to renew our spiritual commitment to Almighty Allah and to embrace good morals, unity and compassion,” she said in her message.
Quoting Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183), Namyalo reminded Muslims that fasting is prescribed as a pathway to righteousness. “O you who believe, fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, that you may attain righteousness,” she cited.
She also referenced Surah Al-Baqarah (2:185), noting that Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind. “Fasting is not merely abstaining from food and drink; it is about purifying the heart, controlling our actions and strengthening our obedience to Allah,” Namyalo said.
The Chief Muzzukulu also urged Muslims to promote peace in their homes and communities, extend charity to the less privileged and pray for national stability and progress. “As we fast and pray, may Allah accept our supplications, forgive our shortcomings and grant our nation peace and prosperity,” she said.
Ramadan begins Wednesday, February 18, 2026, following the sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday evening. The holy month is observed worldwide through fasting from dawn to sunset, heightened worship, charity and reflection.
