Speke Resort steps up CSR with community clean-up for environmental sustainability

Speke Resort Munyonyo has led a community clean-up drive along the lakeside, bringing together staff and residents to promote environmental sustainability and proper waste management.

Staff and community members participate in a clean-up exercise organised by Speke Resort Munyonyo along the lakeside precinct.

Munyonyo, Uganda: Speke Resort Munyonyo has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability and community well-being through a community clean-up exercise conducted around the resort and neighbouring areas along the Munyonyo lakeside.

The initiative, carried out under the resort’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, brought together staff members and local residents in a joint effort to promote cleanliness, proper waste management, and environmental stewardship.

Management said the clean-up was designed not only to preserve the natural beauty of the lakeside precinct but also to foster a safe and healthy environment for residents, visitors, and businesses operating in the area.

“Munyonyo hosts a mix of residential communities, hospitality facilities and recreational spaces. Maintaining environmental standards requires collective responsibility,” a representative from the resort noted.

During the exercise, participants collected litter, cleared walkways, and sensitised community members on responsible waste disposal practices.

The activity also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the resort and its neighbours, reinforcing shared ownership of the local environment.

Located along the shores of Lake Victoria, Munyonyo remains one of Kampala’s prime hospitality and residential hubs, making environmental conservation critical to both tourism and community welfare.

Broader Sustainability Agenda

Speke Resort Management said the clean-up drive forms part of a broader sustainability strategy focused on environmental conservation, community engagement, and long-term social impact.

By participating in hands-on community initiatives, the resort continues to position itself as a responsible corporate citizen committed to building cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities.

The exercise underscores the belief that meaningful environmental protection is best achieved through collective action between institutions and the communities they serve.
