Kiryadongo, Uganda: Two suspects have been charged and remanded to prison over allegations of forging land documents and illegally dealing in the estate of a deceased woman in Kiryadongo District.

The suspects, Kamukama David and Nuwagira George, were on Wednesday arraigned before the Kiryadongo Chief Magistrate’s Court following a joint investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They face charges of forgery, uttering a false document, conspiracy to commit a felony, and intermeddling with the estate of the deceased. Court remanded the duo until February 20, 2026.

State prosecution alleges that the accused, together with another suspect still at large, fraudulently created a land sales agreement dated February 15, 2002, purportedly signed by the late Kabiyanja Joy.

The document claimed that Kabiyanja had sold them approximately 100 acres of land located in Kamusenene Village, Kiryadongo District.

However, investigations established that Kabiyanja Joy died in 2000 — two years before the alleged transaction — rendering the agreement legally impossible.

Authorities further contend that the accused knowingly presented (uttered) the fraudulent agreement to relevant authorities and proceeded to sell portions of the disputed land to unsuspecting third parties.

The land in question legally belongs to the estate of the late Kabiyanja Joy and her children, who reportedly hold valid letters of administration.

Investigators say the case highlights a growing pattern of estate-related fraud, particularly targeting land belonging to deceased persons whose families may face delayed administration processes.

The Anti-Fragt body has reiterated its commitment to prosecuting individuals involved in land grabbing and estate intermeddling, warning that fraudulent manipulation of land documents will attract criminal sanctions.

The matter returns to court on February 20 as investigations continue to trace the third suspect and assess the extent of land transactions made under the allegedly forged agreement.
