Namisindwa, Uganda: The LCV Chairperson-elect of Namisindwa District, Bwayo Emma, has called on newly elected leaders to embrace unity, reconciliation and forgiveness during the ongoing fasting period, warning against post-election divisions that could undermine service delivery.

Bwayo made the remarks during the burial of Catherine Nambuya in Buwangota, Namabya Sub-county, where he urged leaders across the district to use the spiritual season as a time to heal political wounds.

He noted that Anglicans and Catholics are observing the Lenten season, while Muslims are fasting during Ramadan, and described the period as an opportunity for leaders to reflect and reconcile.

“It is embarrassing for leaders who won in the recently concluded elections to continue complaining about and warning those who did not support them. Voters had the opportunity to choose candidates of their preference, and there is no reason to hold grudges,” Bwayo said.

He stressed that the focus should now shift from campaigns to service delivery, urging leaders to use public gatherings to popularise government programmes instead of attacking political opponents.

Bwayo further cautioned that threats and divisive rhetoric could alienate sections of the electorate, weakening collective efforts to develop Namisindwa District.

At the same event, the clan leader of Buwangota, Malemo George, challenged newly elected leaders to serve diligently and remain mindful of the struggles faced by vulnerable residents.

He said the electorate had placed immense trust in their leaders and should not be disappointed through neglect or political arrogance.

The calls come in the aftermath of recently concluded local elections in Namisindwa, which saw several leadership changes at district and sub-county levels.
