Nansana, Uganda: Three robbery suspects have been arrested in connection with a shop robbery in Nansana Gganda, thanks to a police sniffer dog that helped officers track the alleged culprits to their residence.
The suspects; Atwine, Mwange and Namara, were arrested on Friday, February 20, 2026, following a robbery at the shop of Mbowa Joshua, a local businessman.
According to preliminary findings, Mbowa discovered the break-in in the morning when he opened his shop and found that unknown thugs had cut through the iron sheets and ceiling board to gain entry. Cash was reportedly stolen.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that in the morning hours of the incident, Mbowa Joshua went to open his shop and discovered that unknown thugs had cut through the iron sheets and ceiling board to gain entry. The suspects allegedly stole cash and fled to an unknown destination,” a police statement reads in part.
“Mbowa immediately reported the incident to Gganda Police Station and requested the support of a Police K9 unit from the Kawaala K9 Unit,” it adds.
A joint team of police officers and the K9 unit responded to the scene. The sniffer dog, identified as Pepper, was introduced to what officers described as a well-preserved crime scene.
“The police sniffer dog, Pepper, was introduced to a well-preserved crime scene and successfully picked the scent trail. The dog tracked the scent for approximately one kilometre, leading officers to Atwine’s residence, where it zeroed in on Atwine and the two other suspects.”
A search at the premises resulted in the recovery of a pair of scissors suspected to have been used to cut the iron sheets, a hammer and cash believed to be proceeds of the robbery.
Investigators established that the three suspects reside and sleep in the same house.
“The suspects, together with the recovered exhibits, are currently being held at Gganda Police Station as investigations continue,” the police statement further reads.
Police have urged business owners to strengthen security around their premises and report suspicious activity promptly.
