Kampala, Uganda: The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) has launched an extensive Ramadan charity drive across major universities in Kampala, delivering relief food packages and financial support to thousands of Muslim students observing the Holy Month.
The outreach, led by SPA and ONC Manager Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, began at Masjid Aisha at Kyambogo University, where assorted food items were handed over to support students during fasting.
Addressing the faithfuls at Kyambogo, Namyalo urged learners to remain focused on their academic mission while strengthening their faith.
“As you fast and pray, remain steadfast in your studies. I pray that Allah grants you peace, sincerity and success in the mission that brought you to university,” she said.
From Kyambogo, the ONC team proceeded to Makerere University Business School (MUBS), where Muslim students turned up in large numbers to receive the delegation. Namyalo joined them in prayer and reaffirmed her office’s commitment to youth empowerment.
“Our engagement with universities is deliberate. Young people must be supported spiritually and economically to thrive,” she noted.

The drive later extended to the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), where additional relief packages were distributed. In a surprise gesture at IUIU, Namyalo pledged to cover tuition fees for Lumu Abdul Hakim, a second-year student, for the remainder of his academic programme.
“Education should never be cut short because of financial hardship. Where we can stand in the gap, we will,” she pledged.

The day’s activities culminated with relief distribution at Kampala International University (KIU) and Kampala University “Original,” where students welcomed the initiative.
At KIU, Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammed Ngoma commended the outreach as timely and impactful. “This initiative strengthens our students during Ramadan and reflects meaningful partnership with the community,” he said.
In her closing remarks, Namyalo pledged continued engagement with institutions of higher learning, including guidance on accessing government wealth creation programmes.
“Ramadan teaches compassion and responsibility. As ONC, we remain committed to ensuring that our young people are empowered both spiritually and economically,” she emphasized.

The university outreach forms part of ONC’s broader Ramadan Charity Drive targeting vulnerable communities and institutions across the country.
