Namisindwa, Uganda: A political dispute in Namisindwa District has intensified after Bubulo East County MP, Hon. Musila John, was served with a demand notice seeking Shs50 million in damages over alleged defamatory remarks made during a radio talk show.
According to a letter dated February 20, 2026, from Luchivya & Co. Advocates, the firm is acting on behalf of Mr. Sakwa George, a former contender for the Bubulo East County parliamentary seat in the recently concluded elections.
The lawyers accuse Hon. Musila of making defamatory statements against their client during the “Elgon Baraza” talk show aired on Elgon FM on January 24, 2026, between 10:00am and 1:00pm.
In the demand notice, Musila is alleged to have claimed that Mr. Sakwa conceded defeat through an SMS message and later travelled to the United States of America immediately after the polls. The lawyers argue that the remarks portrayed their client as having abandoned his supporters following the election loss.
However, the firm insists that Mr. Sakwa neither sent any congratulatory SMS nor travelled abroad after the elections. The statements are described as “demeaning and defamatory,” with the lawyers contending that they have damaged Sakwa’s reputation and political standing.
The notice demands that Hon. Musila issue a public apology on the same radio station and pay Shs50,000,000 within five days as compensation for alleged reputational harm.
Failure to comply, the letter warns, will result in legal proceedings being instituted against the legislator.
This marks the second time Hon. Musila has reportedly been served with a similar notice over alleged defamation, the first having been filed by former MP Simon Mulongo.
The matter now sets the stage for a possible legal showdown, as tensions from the recently concluded elections continue to reverberate across Namisindwa’s political landscape.
