Entebbe, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, on Tuesday presided over a High Command meeting of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) at State House, Entebbe, where top commanders reviewed the country’s security situation and regional operations.
The meeting, held as is customary, assessed the prevailing security environment, strategic defence priorities, and ongoing UPDF missions both within and beyond Uganda’s borders.
In a statement issued after the meeting, Museveni commended the leadership and rank-and-file of the UPDF for what he described as discipline and professionalism.
“Today, I met with the High Command of the UPDF to review our security situation and the strategic priorities of our country. I thank the CDF and all officers & men of the UPDF and commend them for their discipline, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Uganda’s peace and sovereignty. Our stability is built on vigilance, unity, and patriotism,” Museveni said.

He added that government will continue strengthening defence capacity to ensure that Uganda remains secure and focused on social and economic transformation.
Top Commanders in Attendance
The meeting was attended by the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba; Deputy CDF, Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding; Commander Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga; Commander Reserve Force, Lt. Gen. Otema Awany; Commander Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi; and Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), Maj. Gen. David Mugisha, among other service chiefs.

Officials from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs were also present, including Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, State Minister Huda Oleru, and Permanent Secretary Rosette Byengoma.
The High Command session comes shortly after the recently concluded general elections, which observers described as the most peaceful in Uganda’s electoral history.
During the Tarehe Sita celebrations earlier this month, Gen. Muhoozi commended security forces for maintaining stability during the election period and thanked Ugandans for cooperating with security agencies.
Beyond Uganda’s borders, the UPDF remains deployed in regional operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, and Somalia, reflecting Uganda’s broader security commitments in the region.
