FUFA Women Elite League returns as 17 teams battle for Super League promotion

The 2025/2026 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League kicks off Saturday Feb 28 with 17 teams competing across two groups for promotion to the FUFA Women Super League.

Kampala, Uganda: The 2025/2026 season of the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Elite League officially kicks off on Saturday, February 28, with 17 teams competing for promotion to the top tier of women’s football in Uganda.

The new campaign begins with eight fixtures staged across the country, marking the return of competitive action after the league’s postponement last October to accommodate national examinations involving several players.

Last season’s champions, St Noa Girls FC, secured promotion to the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League, leaving the race for elevation wide open.

Opening Day Fixtures

Among the headline matches, UPDF Women FC host PISGBC Queens FC at Bombo Barracks Ground, while Pabo United welcome Jinja United WFC at Gulu High School Playground.

Lira City Queens FC face HighWay Ladies FC at Lira Primary School Playground, and UCU Lady Cardinals FC travel to Amus College Stadium to meet Gold Star Ladies FC.

Other fixtures see She Kasese Soccer Club take on URA Ladies FC at Nyakasanga Primary School in Kasese, Ateker WFC clash with BUL Women FC at Soroti Sports Ground, Buhimba Lady Saints entertain Boni Consilli Girls FC at Kigaya C.O.U Playground, and Police Women FC travel to face Tooro Queens FC at King Oyo Sports Complex.

League Expands to 17 Teams

The 2025/2026 season has expanded from 14 to 17 teams, all of which have satisfied FUFA’s club licensing requirements.

The teams are divided into two geographical pools.

The Elizabeth Group comprises Tooro Queens FC, Boni Consilli WFC, Buhimba Lady Saints FC, She Kasese FC, PISBC WFC, Wakiso Hill WFC, URA Ladies FC, Police Women FC and UPDF WFC.

The Victoria Group features Ateker WFC, Gold Star Ladies FC, Pabo United WFC, UCU Lady Cardinals FC, HighWay Ladies FC, Lira City Queens FC, Jinja United WFC and BUL Women FC.

Promotion at Stake

At the end of a round-robin series within each group, the top team from the Elizabeth and Victoria groups will earn direct promotion to the Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League.

The return of the league signals continued growth in Uganda’s women’s football structure, offering emerging clubs a pathway to elite competition while strengthening regional representation.

With promotion on the line and new teams in the mix, the season promises heightened competition as clubs battle for a place in the country’s top-flight women’s division.
