Man, 57, killed in suspected domestic assault in Luuka

Police in Luuka District are hunting for a man accused of fatally assaulting his 57-year-old father following a suspected land and sugarcane dispute in Bulongo Sub-county.

Luuka, Uganda: Police in Luuka District have launched investigations into a suspected murder by assault following the death of a 57-year-old man in Buyunze B Village.

According to Samson Lubega, the North Busoga Regional Police Spokesperson, the incident occurred in the early hours of February 26, 2026, at around 4:00 a.m.

The deceased has been identified as Isabirye George, also known as Mukaga, a resident of Buyunze B Village, Nakabugu Parish, Bulongo Sub-county.

Preliminary police findings indicate that the deceased was discovered in his bedroom with fatal head injuries. Officers visited and documented the scene, with initial observations suggesting there was a struggle prior to the assault.

Police have identified the prime suspect as Isabirye Paul, a biological son to the deceased and a resident of the same village, who is currently on the run.

Investigators say information gathered so far points to a domestic dispute related to land ownership and sugarcane management as the possible motive behind the fatal assault. Security agencies have intensified efforts to trace and apprehend the suspect.

Police have appealed to members of the public to volunteer any information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest by reporting to the nearest police station or contacting Luuka Police directly.

Authorities have further urged residents to resolve domestic disagreements through lawful and peaceful means and to seek mediation from local leaders or relevant authorities instead of resorting to violence.
