Four senior Mityana District officials, including the LCV Vice Chairperson, have been arrested over alleged abuse of office and nepotism in district recruitment processes.

Mityana District senior district officials arrested over alleged recruitment irregularities.

Mityana, Uganda: The Inspectorate of Government, in collaboration with the Uganda Police Force, has arrested four senior officials from Mityana District over allegations of abuse of office and nepotism in the recruitment process.

The suspects include Anna Miriam Nassali, Vice Chairperson LCV Mityana District; Dr Lwassampijja Fred, Chairperson of the District Service Commission; Mukiibi Hussein, Secretary to the Commission; and Ssekibuule Andrew, a member of the Commission.

According to preliminary investigations, the officials are accused of conspiring to favour their relatives — including children and spouses — during recent district recruitment exercises, allegedly undermining merit-based selection and fair competition for public service positions.

Investigators alleged that some of the affected posts include Municipal Labour Officer, Education Assistants, Accountant for Mityana Municipality, head teachers and other teaching positions in schools across the district.

Authorities allege that the positions were filled without following established employment and appointment guidelines, and without disclosure of conflicts of interest as required under the Leadership Code Act and the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders.

The arrests follow what anti-corruption officials described as credible findings pointing to ethical violations and procedural breaches in the district’s service commission operations.

The ongoing investigation seeks to restore accountability and transparency in public sector recruitment within Mityana District.

Officials from the Inspectorate of Government said the probe aims to ensure that qualified candidates are accorded equal opportunity in public service and that recruitment processes strictly adhere to statutory guidelines.

Auhrotiews said further updates will come as investigations progress and the suspects are processed in accordance with the law.
