Tehran, Iran: The Islamic Republic of Iran has issued stern warnings of retaliation after coordinated U.S. and Israeli military strikes against Iranian territory, saying its armed forces will defend the nation with “all their might” and respond decisively to what Tehran described as flagrant aggression.
According to multiple international reports, airstrikes carried out on February 28, 2026, targeted Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan and Tabriz, as part of a joint military operation dubbed Operation Lion’s Roar by Israeli authorities.
Iran’s foreign ministry accused the United States and Israel of violating its sovereignty and breaching the United Nations Charter by striking defensive infrastructure and civilian areas during ongoing diplomatic engagements.

In strongly worded statements, Tehran said that responding to the attacks is a lawful right under international law and vowed to use “all capabilities and resources to confront this criminal aggression.” The government called on the United Nations Security Council and the global community to take immediate action.
Pledges of Retaliation
Iran’s leadership warned that its military, including ballistic missile and drone units, is prepared for a forceful response against the aggressors. Tehran has previously indicated that its response could include targeting U.S. military installations and strategic sites in the region if its territory is attacked.
Iranian officials have made clear that the nation views such retaliation as both a defensive necessity and a sovereign right. Some analysts have also suggested that Iran may leverage allied proxy forces in the region as part of its response strategy.
International Reaction and Escalation Risk
The strikes have prompted global concerns about a broader conflict. International leaders, including the United Nations Secretary-General, have urged de-escalation and renewed diplomatic efforts to prevent wider regional war and protect civilians.
As tensions escalate, the immediate question remains whether diplomatic channels can be reactivated to avoid a deeper and more protracted military confrontation in the Middle East.
