Entebbe, Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni Thursday hosted Muslim leaders and believers for an Iftar dinner at State House Entebbe, offering a clarion call for unity, justice and continued national cohesion during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement issued via his official X handle after the gathering, Museveni congratulated the Muslim community for reaching a significant stage in the Ramadan fast and thanked Ugandans for their support to the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

“I welcomed our Muslim brothers and sisters to the Iftar dinner at State House, Entebbe, and I congratulate them upon reaching this important stage of the Ramadan fast,” Museveni said. “My appreciation goes to the Muslim community and all Ugandans for the massive support to the NRM in the recent elections.”

The President said the Ramadan season serves as a reminder of the importance of justice, unity and shared prosperity within societies. “The Ramadan season reminds us of the need to work for justice, unity and global affluence,” he said.

Museveni commended Ugandans for rejecting sectarian politics and embracing national unity, which he said has strengthened the NRM since the expansion of the National Resistance Council (NRC) in 1989. “Ugandans deserve commendation for rejecting sectarianism and embracing national unity,” he noted.

On Middle East Situation…

Museveni also commented on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, saying Uganda maintains friendly relations with all countries involved in the crisis.

The President noted that in his capacity as Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, Uganda considers Israel, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United States as friendly nations.

“All these countries; Israel, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the United States, are all friends of Uganda,” Museveni said.

He warned that politics based on identity and sectarian divisions continue to fuel instability in the region. “The politics of identity and sectarianism remain a major source of instability in that region and must be rejected if societies are to prosper,” he added.
