Kampala, Uganda: The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo, has met a delegation of journalists under the Uganda Journalists Union (UJU) at the ONC offices in Kyambogo, with discussions focusing on the welfare and economic empowerment of media practitioners.
During the courtesy visit, the journalists briefed Namyalo on challenges faced in the line of duty and explored possible avenues of support to improve their livelihoods.
The delegation revealed that they had established a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO) under the UJU umbrella to strengthen financial stability among journalists.
They explained that the SACCO aims to help members access affordable credit, improve savings culture and create opportunities for economic empowerment within the media fraternity.
The journalists, therefore, appealed to the ONC for support to strengthen the initiative and expand financial opportunities for members.

In response, Namyalo welcomed the move, describing the SACCO as a positive step toward improving the welfare of journalists. She pledged support for the initiative and indicated that the matter would be addressed after the ongoing holy month of Ramadan.
Namyalo also said she would present the journalists’ request to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, whom she referred to as the “grandfather of the Bazzukulu.”
She expressed confidence that the President would positively consider the request, noting the critical role journalists play in national development. “Journalists are key partners in promoting government programmes and disseminating information that supports social and economic transformation,” she said.
The journalists commended Namyalo for what they described as her humility, dedication and strong work ethic. They particularly praised her engagement with communities at the grassroots and her willingness to listen to the concerns of ordinary citizens.

According to the delegation, Namyalo has distinguished herself as a government official who remains accessible and attentive to the needs of wananchi.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to continued engagement between the media fraternity and government institutions, aimed at improving the welfare of journalists and strengthening collaboration in national development.
