Berlin, Germany: The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) showcased Uganda’s conservation success story at the global tourism exhibition ITB Berlin 2026, highlighting the country’s progress in wildlife protection and sustainable tourism.
Leading the Ugandan delegation, UWA Executive Director James Musinguzi presented Uganda’s conservation achievements, including the steady recovery of rhino populations and the continued protection of globally significant primate species such as mountain gorillas and chimpanzees.
Dr Musinguzi told tourism stakeholders that Uganda has made notable strides in protecting endangered wildlife through strengthened ranger deployment, anti-poaching operations and habitat restoration.
He noted that tourism revenue plays a critical role in supporting conservation activities and ensuring sustainable management of national parks and wildlife reserves.
“Tourism is a major driver of conservation in Uganda. The revenue generated supports ranger deployment, anti-poaching operations, habitat restoration and community conservation programmes,” he said.

On linking conservation and communities, Dr Musinguzi emphasized that Uganda’s tourism model integrates wildlife conservation with community development, ensuring that local communities benefit directly from protecting natural resources.
He explained that community engagement initiatives around protected areas have helped reduce wildlife conflicts and encouraged local participation in conservation efforts.

Through its presence at ITB Berlin, the world’s largest travel and tourism trade fair, Uganda aims to strengthen its global tourism profile and attract more international visitors.
Tourism authorities say the country continues to position itself as a leading sustainable tourism destination where conservation and economic development go hand in hand.
Uganda is globally recognized for unique attractions such as mountain gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking, birdwatching and diverse national parks.
