Obua distributes 630 iron sheets to schools, church in Ajuri

Government Chief Whip Hamson Denis Obua has handed over 630 iron sheets to schools and a church in Ajuri Constituency under the Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme to improve infrastructure in Alebtong District.

Government Chief Whip Hamson Denis Obua hands over iron sheets to representatives of beneficiary schools and Alebtong Yahew Pentecostal Church during a ceremony at Alebtong District headquarters.

Alebtong, Uganda: Government Chief Whip and outgoing Ajuri County Member of Parliament Hamson Denis Obua has handed over 630 iron sheets to selected schools and a church in Ajuri Constituency to support infrastructure development and improve learning conditions in Alebtong District.

The iron sheets were secured through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) under the Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme for the Financial Year 2025/26.

The handover ceremony was held at the Alebtong District Headquarters, attended by district leaders, school administrators and community members.

Speaking during the event on Saturday, Obua said the materials were part of government interventions aimed at strengthening institutions and supporting vulnerable communities in northern Uganda.

“Today, I had the honour to deliver iron sheets we lobbied through the Office of the Prime Minister under the Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme FY 2025/26, aimed at improving housing conditions for institutions and vulnerable households in the Northern Uganda sub-region,” Obua said.

He revealed that Alebtong District secured a total of 630 iron sheets, which were distributed to four institutions within Ajuri County.

The beneficiaries include Alanyi Primary School, which received 100 iron sheets; Amugu Secondary School, which received 150 iron sheets; Omoro Senior Secondary School, which also received 150 iron sheets; and Alebtong Yahew Pentecostal Church, which received 230 iron sheets.

Obua said the intervention will help improve infrastructure and create better learning environments for pupils and students.

“This intervention will significantly contribute to improving infrastructure, enhancing the learning environment for pupils and students, and supporting community places of worship,” he said.

He also thanked the government for sustaining development programmes in northern Uganda.

“As Alebtong District, we remain grateful to the Government for the continued support towards rebuilding and strengthening our institutions,” he added.

District leaders welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely support for institutions struggling with infrastructure challenges.

Alebtong Chief Administrative Officer Franko Olaboro said many schools and community facilities still face infrastructure gaps.

“This support from the Office of the Prime Minister is very important for our institutions. Many schools and community facilities in the district still face infrastructure challenges, and such interventions go a long way in improving service delivery,” Olaboro said.

He added that the district technical leadership will monitor the use of the materials to ensure they serve their intended purpose.

Resident District Commissioner Geoffrey Okiswa described the support as a demonstration of government commitment to community development in northern Uganda.

“Government programmes such as the Northern Uganda Rehabilitation Programme are meant to uplift communities and rebuild infrastructure. What we are witnessing today is a clear example of that commitment,” Okiswa said.

Beneficiary institutions also welcomed the support, saying it will help address long-standing infrastructure challenges.

A representative from Alanyi Primary School said leaking classroom roofs have affected learning during rainy seasons. “These iron sheets will help us renovate and ensure our pupils learn in a better environment,” the school official said.

At Amugu Secondary School, headteacher Ricky Opur said improved infrastructure will enhance the learning environment for students.

“With better roofing and improved structures, our students will have a more conducive learning environment,” Opur said.

Gilbert Oceng, a staff member at Omoro Senior Secondary School, said the support will help repair damaged sections of school buildings.

Meanwhile, leaders of Alebtong Yahew Pentecostal Church said the iron sheets will help complete the roofing of the church structure.

District leaders said the intervention reflects government efforts to strengthen education infrastructure and community institutions across Alebtong District and the wider northern Uganda region.
