Kampala, Uganda: The Head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has pledged to support the revival of Quran competitions at Makerere University, saying the initiative will strengthen faith, discipline and unity among Muslim students.
Namyalo made the commitment during an ONC Ramadan outreach engagement at the Makerere University Main Mosque, where she interacted with members of the Makerere University Muslim Students Association (MUMSA).
The ONC Boss was received by MUMSA Chairperson Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa, alongside University Imam Dr. Sowedi Mayanja and Deputy University Imam Muhammed Musungule.
Addressing Muslim students, Namyalo emphasized the importance of strengthening religious values within academic institutions.
“Universities should not only produce graduates with degrees but also individuals with strong moral foundations. Reviving Quran competitions will help nurture faith, unity and discipline among students,” Namyalo said.
She pledged that the Office of the National Chairman of the NRM Party, with support from H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will work with Muslim student leaders to ensure the competitions are revived and sustained at the university.
“As ONC, we are ready to support initiatives that strengthen faith among young people. When students grow with strong values and discipline, they become responsible leaders for the future of this country,” she added.

The Chief Muzzukulu, as she is fondly known, also commended the Muslim community at Makerere for maintaining discipline and stability within the university environment.

“I want to appreciate the Muslim students of Makerere for the discipline and unity you have maintained. Continue focusing on your education while strengthening your spiritual life because the future of this country depends on you,” she said.
During the engagement, she encouraged students to remain patient and focused on their academic and spiritual responsibilities during the holy month of Ramadan.
She also reminded students about the importance of moral responsibility, urging them to abstain from sexual relations before marriage while remaining mindful of the continued risks posed by HIV/AIDS.
“You young people must protect your future. Discipline in life and faith will help you avoid mistakes that can destroy your dreams,” Namyalo advised.
The Makerere University Muslim Students Association also expressed gratitude to the Office of the National Chairman for supporting Muslim students during Ramadan.

MUMSA Chairperson Kayiwa Shuraihu Musa, said they received a total of 200 packages of food relief from ONC which will help them organize Iftar and Sahoor programme for Muslim students observing the fast.
“On behalf of MUMSA, I extend our sincere gratitude for your generous contribution of two hundred boxes towards the MUMSA Iftar and Sahoor programme. Your support has enabled many Muslim students to observe Ramadan with dignity,” Kayiwa said.
He noted that the support helped many students break their fast and observe Sahoor, describing the gesture as a reflection of compassion and commitment to the welfare of the Muslim community.
The engagement forms part of ONC’s nationwide Ramadan outreach programme, which has been supporting Muslim communities across the country while encouraging young people to uphold faith, discipline and positive values.
