Fort Portal, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has donated sports equipment and Shs10 million to support the upcoming Tooro Kingdom Inter-Clans Football Tournament scheduled to begin next month.
The contribution was officially handed over on his behalf by Brig Gen Richard Karemire, the UPDF Joint Staff for Formal Education, Sports and Culture, during a brief ceremony attended by officials from the Tooro Kingdom.
The items were received by Hon. Eng. Kateeba Divine Francis Atwoki, the Tooro Kingdom Minister for Education, Youth and Sports, ahead of the tournament that will run from April 7 to May 4, 2026.
According to Gen Kainerugaba, the support is intended to facilitate the smooth organisation of the football competition while promoting youth participation in sports across the kingdom.
The CDF commended the leadership and people of Tooro Kingdom for their longstanding relationship with the National Resistance Army (NRA) during the liberation struggle and their continued support to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).

He reaffirmed the army’s commitment to backing initiatives that promote national unity, youth engagement and community development through sports.
Receiving the donation, Hon. Kateeba expressed gratitude to Gen Kainerugaba and the UPDF fraternity for supporting the cultural kingdom’s sporting activities.
He noted that the contribution reflects the army’s growing people-centred approach in working with communities and cultural institutions.
Kateeba emphasised that cultural and sporting activities such as the inter-clans tournament play an important role in strengthening unity within the kingdom while preserving cultural traditions.
The Tooro Kingdom Inter-Clans Football Tournament is expected to attract teams representing different clans within the kingdom, bringing together youth and community leaders in a month-long sporting event.
Officials say the competition will culminate in the final match scheduled for May 4, 2026.
