Soroti, Uganda: Lawyer Joshua Okello Patrick has launched a nationwide radio mobilisation tour aimed at defending the leadership record of Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and rallying support for her among political leaders and the public ahead of the next parliamentary term.

Okello announced the campaign in Soroti, saying the grassroots media tour will take him across Uganda’s major regions, including Teso, Northern Uganda, West Nile, Central and Western Uganda, where he plans to engage audiences through local radio stations.

According to Okello, the initiative is intended to clarify what he described as the Speaker’s legislative record and leadership contributions.

“Our aim is to ensure that the public and the incoming Members of Parliament clearly understand the leadership agenda of the Speaker,” Okello said.

He described the campaign as a volunteer-driven effort, adding that his motivation is rooted in what he called “true patriotism” and the need to defend leaders he believes have contributed to Uganda’s stability and development.

“For Uganda to progress, we must support leaders who have demonstrated commitment to stability, service delivery and national development,” he said.

Okello argued that the incoming class of legislators will play a critical role in shaping Uganda’s political direction, saying they should work closely with experienced leaders in Parliament.

“The next generation of MPs must align with leaders who understand governance and legislative processes to ensure continuity and effective service delivery,” he added.

The nationwide media tour will rely heavily on local radio stations, which Okello said remain the most effective platform for reaching grassroots communities across the country.

Through these engagements, he hopes to explain the Speaker’s parliamentary work and counter what he described as misinformation circulating in some political spaces.

The mobilisation campaign comes at a time when political actors across the country are increasingly engaging grassroots structures and media platforms as Uganda gradually moves toward the next electoral cycle.
