Kamuli, Uganda: Ugandan girls’ education and women’s empowerment advocate Rebecca Mubeezi, founder of Becky’s Child Foundation, has been honoured by the International Christian Church (ICC) Europe for her outstanding advocacy for women and girls.
Mubeezi received a crystal plaque of recognition during International Women’s Day celebrations organised by the church in Europe, acknowledging her efforts in championing girl-child education and supporting vulnerable communities.
The award, engraved “Women/Girl Advocacy Recognition,” was presented by Esther Williams, Head of Women of the Church at ICC-Europe.
Williams said Mubeezi’s dedication to empowering girls and women has inspired many young people and transformed lives across communities.
“We want to appreciate Becky as a passionate advocate championing girl-child education and women’s empowerment. Her advocacy has inspired a generation and her courage has touched countless lives,” Williams said.
She likened Mubeezi’s compassion to the biblical example of Christ feeding thousands with limited resources, noting that her humanitarian work continues to uplift vulnerable groups.

Speaking after receiving the award, Mubeezi described the recognition as both humbling and challenging, saying it reinforces the need to continue advocating for the rights and welfare of women and girls.
“I am humbled to receive this prestigious award from the International Christian Church Europe. I dedicate it to the women and children struggling to secure their future and break free from domestic violence, harmful cultural norms and early marriages,” Mubeezi said.

She also dedicated the recognition to girls facing menstrual poverty and school dropout challenges, as well as to her mentor, Rebecca Kadaga, whom she credited for inspiring many women leaders in Uganda.
Recognition for community work
Mubeezi has previously been recognised locally for her advocacy work.
During Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations last year, the Eastern Media Workers Association (EMWA) named her “Youth Lioness” in recognition of her commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of children, youth and vulnerable communities.
Former Speaker of Parliament and current First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Hon Rebecca Kadaga, praised Mubeezi for championing the rights of vulnerable groups.
“Becky is protecting, mentoring and impacting the forgotten constituency, the vulnerable and children, giving them a voice, a helping hand and a smile of hope,” Kadaga said.
Through Becky’s Child Foundation, Mubeezi has supported more than 500 vulnerable children, providing access to education, healthcare and mentorship programmes.
Her initiatives focus on empowering girls and women with skills and confidence to overcome poverty and social barriers.
The foundation has also been involved in raising awareness about kidney disease prevention, as well as promoting broader community development initiatives in eastern Uganda.
