Mbale City, Uganda: The Umukuka of the Bamasaaba, His Highness Jude Mike Mudoma III, has donated tablet computers to all Local Council Five (LC5) chairpersons-elect from the Bugisu sub-region in a gesture aimed at strengthening coordination between the cultural institution and local leadership.
According to the spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, Steven Masiga, each of the devices, iPads valued at approximately Shs3 million, was given to the LC5 chairpersons-elect from Namisindwa, Bududa, Sironko and Mbale District.
Masiga told DailyExpress that the distribution followed a high-level planning meeting convened by the Umukuka at the Bugisu Cultural Institution offices in Mbale City, where the cultural leader met with district leaders from across the region.
During the meeting, Umukuka Mudoma handed over the devices to some of the LC5 chairpersons-elect who attended the session, while those who were absent were advised to collect their gadgets from the cultural institution offices.
Masiga explained that the iPads were originally donated to the Bugisu Cultural Institution by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) to support data collection activities within the institution.
The devices are intended to help the institution capture data from clans, schools and other community structures across the Bugisu region.

However, the Umukuka decided to share part of the donation with district leaders as a goodwill gesture to strengthen collaboration between cultural and local government structures.
“These tablets were donated to the cultural institution by UBOS to support data collection activities. The Umukuka is simply extending a good gesture to the leaders of the community,” Masiga said.
More beneficiaries expected
Masiga noted that the remaining devices will also be distributed among ministers within the cultural institution, clan chairpersons and selected media officials attached to the institution.
If additional devices remain after the internal distribution, the cultural leadership may consider extending support to lower local government leaders such as LCIII chairpersons or district councillors, although the final decision will rest with the Umukuka.
He emphasised that the donation was made to the cultural institution and not to local governments, adding that the Umukuka’s decision to share the devices reflects his commitment to community development and cooperation with local leaders.
