Kawempe, Uganda: Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC defeated She Corporate FC 2–0 on Sunday to reclaim the top position in the FUFA Women Super League in a major push for their title challenge.
Goals from Jovia Nakagolo and Kevin Nanyunja secured the crucial victory for the hosts at Valley Ground, moving them to 36 points, one ahead of second-placed She Corporate.
Head coach Ayub Khalifah credited the win to his team’s preparation and discipline. “We prepared well for this match because we knew it would be difficult. The players stayed disciplined, followed the plan and showed great determination to secure the victory,” Khalifah said.
Kick-off had initially been delayed after heavy rainfall made the pitch temporarily unplayable, forcing some supporters to leave before the match started.
“The rain made conditions difficult for both teams, but we encouraged the players to stay patient, keep the ball moving and remain focused on our objective,” Khalifah added.
Early lead sets the tone
She Corporate started strongly and nearly opened the scoring when Jesca Namaganda struck the crossbar early in the game.
However, Kawempe Muslim broke the deadlock in the ninth minute when Nakagolo capitalised on a mix-up between the She Corporate goalkeeper and defender before calmly tapping the ball into the net.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser before halftime, with Sumaya Komuntale coming close, but her effort drifted wide.

Early in the second half, former Kawempe striker Rebecca Nakato nearly levelled the score, but her powerful effort forced a crucial save from Kawempe goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje.
She Corporate’s hopes of a comeback suffered a major setback in the 78th minute when goalkeeper Molly Naava was sent off for handling the ball outside the penalty area.
Four minutes before the final whistle, Nanyunja sealed the victory with a well-taken finish that sparked celebrations among the home supporters.
Nakagolo said the victory was important for the team’s title ambitions. “This victory gives us confidence. We respect our opponents, but we want to keep winning matches and remain focused on the title race,” she said.
