Kampala, Uganda: The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Manager and Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Affairs, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, Monday extended her Ramadan food distribution initiative to Muslim students at Mutesa I Royal University and the Buganda Royal Institute.

The food packages were received by Siraje Kizito, the patron of Muteesa Royal University Muslim Students Association, alongside guild and student leaders. Kizito, who previously taught Namyalo, commended the initiative, saying it would ease the burden on fasting students.

“We thank the Office of the National Chairman and Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo for thinking about Muslim students during this fasting period. Such support helps many students who struggle to balance academics and meals during Ramadan,” he said.

While addressing students, Namyalo urged them to remain disciplined, focused and grounded in faith as they pursue their education. She also announced a Shs10 million contribution towards the construction of a Muslim students’ facility to support their welfare and spiritual activities.

“This support is meant to ensure that you have a proper space for your activities and prayers as you continue with your studies,” Namyalo said.

She further pledged to mobilise additional support from well-off Muslims to ensure completion of the project. “We shall engage our wealthy Muslim brothers and sisters to come in and support this cause so that the students can have a decent place for worship and engagement,” she added.

Support extended to IUIU Female Campus

From Muteesa I Royal University, Namyalo proceeded to the Islamic University in Uganda Female Campus in Kabojja, where she continued her Ramadan outreach targeting female students.

Dr Nabukeera Madinah, the campus director, said the campus hosts over 1,000 students across more than 150 academic programmes. She highlighted financial challenges faced by many students, noting that the institution has supported over 480 girls through its charity initiatives, including the annual Run for Girl Education.

“Every year, we organize a charity run to raise funds, and so far, the program has supported over 480 girls. We also admit non-Muslim students. As long as a student is willing to abide by campus rules and regulations, including the dress code, which is often the main concern, they are welcome. Currently, about 40% of the learners here are non-Muslims, while 60% are Muslims,” she said.

In her remarks, Namyalo pledged continued support for female education and student welfare programmes. “We must continue supporting our girls to stay in school, complete their education and become responsible citizens who contribute to national development,” she said.

She also donated a cow for Eid celebrations, symbolising support for students during the holy month. “Let this be a symbol of unity and care as you break your fast on Eid. You are not alone, we are with you.”

Outreach reaches Kabalagala Police Division

As part of the ongoing ONC Ramadan outreach, Namyalo later visited Kabalagala Police Division, where she delivered 50 boxes of food relief packages on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to support Muslim officers and staff.

She commended the officers for their dedication to duty, particularly in an area faced with complex security challenges. “We appreciate your commitment to maintaining law and order, especially in areas like Kabalagala that require constant vigilance. Continue serving with integrity and discipline,” Namyalo said.

Police leadership at the division, led by Officer in Charge, ASP Awio Morris, alongside Intelligence chief SP Ntomi Fred and Family Unit head, ASP Nanyunja Sarah, welcomed the gesture and thanked Namyalo, saying the support would help officers observe Ramadan with dignity.

“We appreciate Hajjat Namyalo and the Office of the National Chairman for this gesture. It will support Muslim officers as they observe the remaining days of Ramadan while continuing to serve the community,” ASP Awio said.

The Ramadan outreach is part of the broader community support initiatives spearheaded by the Office of the National Chairman to assist vulnerable groups and promote unity and compassion during the holy month.
