Iganga, Uganda: Muslim leaders in Iganga District have commended the head of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, for her continued support to the Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan.

The praise was led by Sheikh Hassan Mwaita during the second edition of Ramadan Sadaqah donations organised by the Iganga Muslim District under the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

Speaking as chief guest at the function, Sheikh Mwaita applauded Namyalo for supporting Muslim programmes and promoting the interests of the Islamic community within government.

“We thank her for the contributions to the Muslim fraternity and for protecting the dignity of Islam. When you have such leaders in government, they should be supported to lobby more for the community,” he said.

The Sadaqah packages, delivered through the ONC Iganga coordinator Buyinza Abdulrahim, were distributed to vulnerable Muslims selected from various counties across the district.

The Iganga District Kadhi, Sheikh Sinan Muhammad Muwanika, also praised both Namyalo and the government under Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for sustained support to the Muslim community.

“We appreciate the tremendous work Hajjat Namyalo has done. However, we still request more support as the needs of our people remain high,” he said, whilst extending an invitation to President Museveni to attend an upcoming Muslim function in the district.

ONC urges unity and program uptake

At the event, ONC Coordinator Buyinza AbdulRahim urged Muslims to remain united and take advantage of government poverty alleviation initiatives such as PDM and Emyooga.

He also raised concerns over management challenges in Muslim-founded schools, noting that absentee foundation bodies are confusing communities.

As Ramadan enters its final days, leaders called for unity, discipline and continued support for community initiatives, noting that Sadaqah remains a vital pillar in supporting the vulnerable.

The donation drive is part of ONC’s broader Ramadan outreach aimed at strengthening community welfare and promoting inclusivity across the country.
