Iganga, Uganda: A shocking turn of events unfolded in Iganga District after residents of Kasolo Village lynched a man accused of brutally killing his mother over a land dispute.
The suspect, identified as Kalulu Anthony, had reportedly been on the run after allegedly murdering his mother, Bakulimya Sylvia, 56, and burying her body inside their house last week.
According to local leaders, Kalulu was spotted on Monday, March 16, after days in hiding, prompting residents to mobilise and hunt him down.
Sources indicate that he had been hiding in a nearby sugarcane plantation before returning home, where he allegedly attempted to attack his sister, triggering an alarm and attracting residents.
“We have got him today… he was killed by angry locals. He had put the village in panic after killing his mother,” one resident said.

Preliminary reports suggest the suspect had accused his mother of refusing to hand over a land sale agreement, which allegedly sparked the fatal attack.
The deceased was reportedly killed on March 11 and secretly buried inside the house, before the body was discovered the following day with the help of police and residents, when it had visible head injuries, indicating she was assaulted before being killed.
The village LC1 Chairperson, Ssembela Herbert, said he had alerted both police and residents after receiving information that the suspect had resurfaced.
“We mobilised locals to search the sugarcane plantations… but he was later found at home hiding in a banana plantation where the mob killed him,” Ssembela said. He condemned mob justice, urging residents to allow law enforcement agencies to handle such cases.
Police from Iganga Central Police Station responded to the scene and transported the suspect’s body to Iganga General Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
“Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding both the murder and the subsequent mob killing,” police authorities said, warning against mob justice as it undermines the rule of law and complicates criminal investigations.
