Mayuge, Uganda: At least three people have been confirmed dead, with several others missing, after a boat capsized on Lake Victoria near Bugoto Landing Site in Bukabooli Sub-county, Mayuge District.
The incident, which is under investigation by police, occurred on Lake Victoria as victims were travelling on the ill-fated vessel.
Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Micheal Kasadha confirmed the tragedy, noting that the deceased had not yet been identified.
“The three yet-to-be identified people include one female adult and two children. Four people were rescued, and more missing people are being traced,” ASP Kasadha said.

Police marine units from Mayuge were swiftly deployed to the scene and have so far rescued at least four survivors.
Search operations are still ongoing as authorities continue efforts to trace additional missing passengers feared to have been on board at the time of the accident.
Authorities said investigations have commenced to establish the exact cause of the capsize, although preliminary details remain unclear.
Police teams, including marine rescue specialists, are on the ground coordinating both rescue and recovery efforts.
By press time, police had indicated that information regarding the total number of passengers and identities of the victims is still scanty, but assured the public that a comprehensive update will be issued once investigations progress.
