Yumbe, Uganda: The Territorial Police in North West Nile Region have launched a manhunt for a truck driver who fled after allegedly siphoning fuel in Yumbe District.
According to regional police spokesperson SP Collins Asea, the incident occurred on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at around 11:00 am in Lodonga Town Council.
Police say the case was reported by a witness, identified as No. 763 Adeuga Munadi, who alerted authorities that the driver of Truck No. 25 was allegedly siphoning about 60 litres of fuel from jerry cans.
Security personnel moved in to intercept the suspect, but the driver fled upon their arrival.

Asea revealed that officers pursued the vehicle and fired shots at its tyres in an attempt to disable it. “During the chase, officers fired at the truck’s tyres, damaging the vehicle, but the suspect managed to escape,” he said.
Scene of Crime officers visited the site, documented evidence and recorded statements from witnesses as investigations intensify to identify and arrest the suspect.
The incident has been recorded under SD Ref. 60/17/03/2026 at Yumbe Police Station.
Police have warned the public against theft of fuel and construction materials, noting that such acts disrupt development projects and affect communities. “We urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, especially involving construction resources,” Asea said.
