Zombo, Uganda: Zombo District has scheduled March 26, 2026, for its belated International Women’s Day celebrations, with a major highlight being free legal aid services from FIDA Uganda.
The event will take place at Zombo Lower Primary School playground in Zombo Town Council, bringing together community members, leaders, and development partners to advance women’s rights and access to justice.
According to District Communication Officer Alex Pithua, FIDA-Uganda will deploy its mobile legal clinic to offer free legal services to residents.
“FIDA will provide free legal services to the community by extending its mobile legal clinic; therefore, community members are encouraged to attend the function in large numbers,” Pithua said in a March 17 press release.
The intervention is expected to support women and vulnerable groups in accessing justice, particularly in cases related to gender-based violence (GBV), family disputes, and property rights.
This year’s celebration aligns with the global theme: “Scaling up Investment to Accelerate Access to Justice for All Women and Girls in Uganda.”
Zombo District Community Development Officer Samuel Ocaki emphasized the need for coordinated action to tackle GBV and strengthen referral systems.

He noted that partnerships with organizations like FIDA-Uganda are critical in ensuring survivors access to timely legal and social support.
Leaders Rally Community Participation
Zombo Woman MP-elect Topista Acamfua called on residents to turn up in large numbers and use the day to celebrate women’s contributions to society. “We should use the day to honor women who are working day and night in the markets, gardens, and offices to make ends meet,” she said, urging unity rather than division.
Eunice Kayeny, Gender and Culture Minister in Omua Chiefdom, stressed the importance of education in empowering women and girls. “We are ready for the day; we call upon our fellow women to empower our gender by sending them to school,” she said.
Meanwhile, His Majesty Ubimu Phillip Rauni Ularker III commended women for their central role in community and cultural development. “We thank you for your strength, wisdom, and the vital role you play in our families and communities,” the monarch said.
The event is expected to attract a wide cross-section of participants, including local leaders, cultural institutions, religious figures, financial service providers, and learners.
Organisers say the celebration will not only recognise women’s achievements but also provide practical solutions to challenges affecting women and girls in the district.
