Kiryandongo PDM SACCO boss held over fraud

The suspect, Nangoti Peter, chairperson of Panyadoli PDM SACCO, is alleged to have obtained UGX 2,878,400 from 15 individuals under false pretences.

The suspect, Nangoti Peter, who is accused of defrauding PDM beneficiaries was arraigned in court on March 13, 2026.

Kiryandongo, Uganda: Authorities in Kiryandongo District have arrested and arraigned a Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO chairperson accused of defrauding wananchi by falsely claiming that payment was required to access government funds.

The suspect, Nangoti Peter, chairperson of Panyadoli PDM SACCO, is alleged to have obtained UGX 2,878,400 from 15 individuals under false pretences.

According to authorities, Nangoti was arrested on March 6, 2026, and later produced before court on March 13, where he was remanded as investigations and prosecution continue.

The charges stem from allegations that he misled beneficiaries into believing that facilitation fees were required to access funds under the Parish Development Model.

The arrest follows a Presidential directive targeting individuals exploiting wananchi through fraudulent schemes linked to the PDM program.

Officials emphasized that access to PDM funds is free of charge and warned the public against making any payments to intermediaries.

Government says the crackdown is part of broader efforts to safeguard the integrity of the PDM initiative and ensure resources reach intended beneficiaries without interference.

Authorities have urged wananchi to report any individuals demanding money in exchange for access to government programs.

“The Government remains committed to protecting citizens and ensuring that PDM funds benefit the rightful recipients,” officials said.

The case sends a strong warning to SACCO leaders and other actors attempting to exploit vulnerable communities under government programs.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities indicating that more suspects could be apprehended as the enforcement campaign continues.
