Kampala, Uganda: The Manager of the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, on Wednesday concluded a month-long Ramadan outreach that reached prisons, police stations, universities, and vulnerable communities, delivering relief aid and empowerment support to thousands of Muslims and needy Ugandans.

The initiative, carried out on behalf of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, was designed to promote compassion, inclusivity, and solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.

On the final day of the campaign, Hajjat Namyalo visited Luzira Maximum Security Prison in Kampala, where he delivered food packages to fasting inmates, emphasizing dignity and inclusion for all, regardless of circumstance.

“We are here today on behalf of H.E. the President to stand with you during this sacred month of Ramadan. This gesture is a reminder that you are not forgotten,” she told inmates and staff on Wednesday afternoon.

“Ramadan teaches us discipline, patience, and generosity. It is our duty as leaders to ensure that even those in confinement are supported as they observe their faith,” She added.

With over 11,000 inmates housed at Luzira, prison authorities welcomed the intervention as timely and impactful.

The Facility’s Rehabilitation Officer, Hajjat Nuru Kateregga, lobbied for support from Hajjat’s empowerment initiative to support Luzira vocational programmes, particularly the bakery section.

In response, Namyalo pledged to donate three bakery mixers and contributed Shs10 million to boost skills development and self-reliance among inmates and their families.

From Luzira, Namyalo proceeded to Jinja Road Police Division, where she extended Ramadan relief to Muslim officers and staff. Addressing officers at the division, she commended their service and sacrifice in maintaining national security.

“You play a critical role in maintaining law and order. Your discipline and commitment are central to national stability,” she said, urging them to uphold integrity, teamwork, and professionalism.

The District Police Commander, SP Opiyo Patrick, welcomed the outreach, noting that such gestures boost morale, especially during demanding periods like Ramadan.

The outreach also extended to Masanafu Islamic Primary School, where Namyalo donated food supplies to over 200 learners, many of whom come from underprivileged backgrounds. She encouraged students to prioritise education and discipline, aligning their efforts with national development goals.

School leader Sheikh Yusuf Lubega applauded the initiative, saying the support brought relief and joy to learners during the fasting period.

A Nationwide Impact

Beyond Kampala, the ONC Ramadan programme reached universities, mosques, and communities across Uganda, targeting vulnerable groups including students, women, and low-income households.

Throughout the campaign, Namyalo consistently emphasized unity, faith, and empowerment as pillars of national development. “We must continue to stand together as a people, support one another, and ensure that no Ugandan is left behind,” she noted during the engagements.

The Ramadan outreach, spanning weeks of continuous engagement, combined immediate relief with long-term empowerment initiatives such as skills development and community support.
