KAMULI, UGANDA: Muslim leaders in Kamuli have called for peace, discipline, and prayer for global stability, with the ongoing Iran–Israel conflict taking centre stage during Eid ul-Fitr celebrations on Friday.

Delivering his message at Eid prayers, Sheikh Haikal Abed urged believers to pray for peace in the Middle East, warning that escalating tensions risk deepening religious divisions globally.

“We should pray for peace in the Iran-Israel conflict so that it does not degenerate into a Muslim-Christian war. This year is unique, with Muslims observing Ramadhan alongside Christians in Lent. It should be a time of coexistence because war, regardless of who starts it, affects us all,” he said.

Kamuli District Khadhi, Sheikh Ismail Kazibwe, called on Muslims to celebrate Eid in a responsible and dignified manner consistent with Islamic values.

“Celebrate in a civilized way and in the right places. Do not bring shame to Islam by engaging in bad habits or going to wrong places,” Sheikh Kazibwe advised.

He urged believers to sustain the discipline and compassion cultivated during Ramadan, noting that the Islamic calendar now turns toward Dhul Hijjah and preparations for Hajj.

Kamuli Municipality MP-elect Mastula Namatovu congratulated Muslims upon successfully completing the fasting period and called for continued unity, peaceful coexistence, and strong family values.

“Ramadhan should usher in peaceful coexistence, promote strong parenting values, and help end domestic violence as we focus on development, unity, and the proper upbringing of children,” she said.

Namatovu also pledged financial support toward local community concerns, including Shs700,000 to address the presence of pork vendors operating within a predominantly Muslim area, pending compensation arrangements.

She further committed Shs5 million toward community development initiatives upon her swearing-in, describing it as an act of gratitude and service.

The Eid prayers drew large crowds of faithful, with leaders emphasising that the values of compassion, discipline, and unity must extend beyond the holy month.
