Police beat Sheikhs 2-0 to win Eid Cup at Kira Road Arena

Uganda Police defeated the Sheikhs 2-0 to win Eid Cup II in Kampala, as leaders used the match to promote community policing, unity, and stronger ties between security forces and the public.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The Uganda Police Corporate Team defeated the Sheikhs 2-0 to lift the Eid Cup II trophy at the Kira Road Police Arena on Friday, a match organised to strengthen community policing and foster unity.

The match, played in a festive Eid atmosphere, brought together security personnel, religious leaders, and members of the public in a show of collaboration beyond security roles.

Despite losing the main fixture, the Sheikhs secured victory in the penalty shootout segment, edging Police 2-1 in a post-match contest.

The event was graced by Qatar’s Ambassador to Uganda, Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah Al-Zweidi, who pledged support towards upgrading the Kira Road Police Arena to enhance its capacity for community engagement activities.

Ahmed Mohammed was accompanied by Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan, Dr Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) James Ocaya, who represented the Inspector General of Police, used the occasion to emphasise the importance of strengthening ties between the police and the communities they serve.

He said such engagements help build trust, promote cooperation, and create a shared sense of responsibility in maintaining peace and security.

The match attracted several high-profile guests, including President Museveni’s Chief Muzzukulu and Senior Presidential Advisor Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, Police Human Resource Director AIGP Moses Kafeero, Director of Police Forensic Services ACP Andrew Mubiru, Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke, and ACP Emitu Ezekiel, the new Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, among other senior officers.

The Eid Cup continues to grow as a platform that blends sport, faith, and security engagement, reinforcing community cohesion through informal interaction.
