DOKOLO, UGANDA: Residents in Dokolo District have welcomed the official handover of the Amodo Bridge construction site, a long-awaited infrastructure project expected to ease movement and unlock economic opportunities across the area.
The bridge will connect Dokolo South to Dokolo North, addressing years of isolation faced by communities during rainy seasons when access to markets, schools, and health facilities has often been disrupted.
Dokolo District Woman MP Sarah Aguti Nyangkori described the project as a milestone driven by sustained community advocacy.
“This bridge is a result of consistent engagement with government and listening to the cries of our people. For years, communities here have been cut off during rainy seasons. Today marks the beginning of a permanent solution,” she said.
Nyangkori noted that improved connectivity will directly benefit farmers by easing access to markets and reducing post-harvest losses.
“Our farmers have been incurring losses because they cannot easily access markets. With this bridge, we are opening doors to opportunity, better prices, and growth,” she added.
The project has been awarded to Otada Company Construction Ltd, whose Managing Director, Sam Amooti Otada, pledged timely and quality delivery within six months.

“We understand how critical this bridge is to the people of Dokolo. Our team is fully committed to completing the works within six months while maintaining the highest construction standards,” he said.
Otada added that the company will prioritise community engagement and local labour during implementation.
“We are not just building a bridge; we are building trust with the community. We will ensure transparency and deliver a structure that will stand the test of time,” he noted.
Local leaders said the bridge will significantly improve access to essential services, including healthcare, education, and administrative support.
“Access to health centres, schools, and administrative services has been a challenge for many residents. This bridge will ease those burdens and improve overall quality of life,” a district official said.
Residents expressed relief, recalling the dangers they have faced crossing during floods.
“During floods, we have been risking our lives to cross. Sometimes we lose goods or fail to reach markets altogether. This bridge will change everything,” a local trader said.
The Amodo Bridge is expected to become a key economic link, facilitating the movement of agricultural produce and strengthening trade within Dokolo and neighbouring districts.
