Zombo police boss, SP Fred Bogere converts to Islam during Eid prayers

A senior police officer at the rank of Superintendent of Police Friday converted to Islam during Eid prayers, citing personal conviction and hope—an emotional moment that drew widespread support from the Muslim community in Zombo

ZOMBO, UGANDA: A senior police officer in Zombo District, Superintendent of Police Fred Bogere, has publicly converted to Islam during Eid ul-Fitr prayers, describing the faith as a source of hope and personal conviction.

Bogere, the Officer in Charge of Paidha Central Police Station, formally embraced Islam after reciting the Shahada at Salama Mosque in Paidha Town Council, in an event witnessed by hundreds of Muslim faithful.

The conversion took place during Eid prayers, adding significance to celebrations marking the end of Ramadan across the district.

Zombo Muslim District Qadi, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Kasim Amin, welcomed Bogere into the faith, assuring him of full acceptance within the Muslim community.

“You are at the right place; feel at home,” the Qadi said.

Speaker of Zombo District Council, Hassan Ringtho, also congratulated the officer and called upon the Muslim community to support him through material and moral assistance as he begins his new spiritual journey.

Bogere, dressed in traditional Muslim attire, was formally received and seated alongside religious leaders, symbolising his acceptance into the Muslim community.

In his remarks, he said the decision was long considered and driven by personal reflection. “I have been practicing as a Muslim by default. Today, I wanted to formally join Islam because I have seen hope in it,” Bogere said.

He pledged to adhere to Islamic teachings, committing himself to the principles and values of the faith. “I am committed to following the Islamic teachings and doctrines,” he added.

The event also marked the first Eid ul-Fitr celebration for Zombo Muslim District since its creation in December last year, following its separation from Nebbi Muslim District.

Resident District Commissioner Festus Ayikobua urged Muslims to actively participate in government programmes aimed at improving livelihoods, emphasising the values of discipline, self-reliance, and community development.

The Eid celebrations drew Muslim leaders and faithful from across the district, reflecting unity and renewed spiritual commitment within the growing Muslim community in Zombo.
