KAMULI, UGANDA: The Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kamuli, Ms Racheal Bakaki, has called on the public to prioritise development over politics, urging communities to focus on improving livelihoods.
Bakaki made the remarks while representing the RDC at the launch of a project distributing over 300 fuel-saving stoves to members of the Bulogo Women’s Group in Namwendwa Sub-county.
The stoves, donated by well-wishers from Germany through Mr. Walubo Jude, are intended to reduce health risks associated with traditional cooking methods, particularly respiratory diseases caused by smoke.
“Let’s forget about politics and focus on development. We need to work together to improve our lives and communities,” Bakaki said.

She also emphasised the importance of household hygiene and family values, calling on women to maintain sanitation and promote harmony in their homes.
The initiative targets women who rely on firewood and traditional cooking stoves, which expose them to harmful smoke linked to lung complications.
Bulogo Women’s Group leader Birungi Zauja welcomed the support, describing it as a timely intervention for both health and economic wellbeing. “This is a big help to us. We will use these stoves to cook safely and reduce exposure to smoke,” she said.
Local leaders say the fuel-saving stoves will not only improve health outcomes but also reduce firewood consumption, easing environmental pressure and saving time for households.
The project highlights growing community-driven efforts to improve public health and livelihoods through sustainable energy solutions.
