The Government of Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to unlocking the potential of its youthful population as a driver of national development, as preparations intensify for the 4th Annual National Labour Convention and Expo 2026, scheduled to take place at the prestigious Kampala Serena Hotel from April 15th–16th, 2026 under the theme “Unlocking the Potential of Uganda’s Youth Labour Force: Advancing Productivity and Expanding Opportunities for Decent Work.”

The high-level convention will convene key stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, and development partners to chart a progressive path for the country’s labour market. This event highlights the government’s forward-looking strategy to harness the energy and innovation of young people.

With over 75% of Uganda’s population below the age of 30, the country is uniquely positioned to leverage its demographic advantage for sustained economic growth.

Since its inception in 2023, the Annual National Labour Convention and Expo has evolved into a cornerstone platform for dialogue and action on employment, productivity, and inclusive growth. The 2026 edition builds on previous successes, aligning with Uganda’s long-term development frameworks, including Vision 2040 and the National Development Plan IV.

Government officials emphasize that despite challenges such as informality and youth unemployment, strategic investments in skills development, digital innovation, and entrepreneurship are already yielding promising results. The convention will therefore focus on scaling these solutions, strengthening partnerships, and removing barriers that hinder access to decent work.

The event will be presided over by Her Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda as the Chief Guest. It will also attract top-level leadership, including Cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and private sector leaders, demonstrating a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to tackling employment challenges.

It will also showcase innovative programs and practical solutions aimed at enhancing labour productivity and expanding opportunities for young Ugandans.

Businesses, training institutions, and development organizations have been encouraged to actively participate in the Expo segment, which provides a unique platform to exhibit innovations that support job creation and skills development.

As Uganda continues its journey toward inclusive and sustainable growth, the convention stands as a testament to the government’s proactive efforts to empower its youth and build a resilient, productive workforce.

Members of the public will be able to follow proceedings through live broadcasts, ensuring transparency and broad national engagement in shaping the future of work in Uganda.
