ADJUMANI, UGANDA: A four-year-old girl who went missing last week from Adjumani Police barracks has been found dead inside a parked vehicle at the police station, in a tragic incident that has shocked the community.

The child, identified as Kasikayire Mana Michella, was the granddaughter of Sergeant Angeyo Lucy, an officer attached to the Child and Family Protection Unit at Adjumani Police Station.

According to North West Nile Regional Police spokesperson SP Collins Asea, the girl’s body was discovered on March 21 at around 2:00 PM inside a black Mercedes-Benz vehicle (registration UAS 720N).

“The victim was found deceased inside a vehicle that had been parked for a long period as an exhibit in the Traffic Department yard at Adjumani Central Police Station,” SP Asea said.

Police had earlier registered a disappearance case under reference Adj CRB 145/2026 after the child went missing on March 16 while staying at the barracks, where she attended Mummy’s Care Nursery and Primary School.

Search efforts had been ongoing until the grim discovery.

Preliminary findings indicate that the child may have entered the stationary vehicle while playing and accidentally locked herself inside.

“She may have been unable to open the door, leading to suffocation,” SP Asea explained.

Scene of Crime Officers and detectives examined the scene, while a preliminary postmortem conducted by Dr Ambaku Michael found no visible external injuries on the body.

The remains, which showed early signs of decomposition, were transferred to Adjumani General Hospital mortuary for further examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the police barracks and surrounding community, raising concerns about safety around unattended vehicles.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
