ARUA CITY, UGANDA: Police in Arua City are investigating a serious road crash that left a motorcyclist critically injured after ramming into a stationary truck along the Arua–Nebbi road.
The accident occurred on Sunday evening at around 7:00 PM in Arua Hill Cell, Central Division.
According to West Nile Regional Police spokesperson SSP Josephine Angucia, the crash involved a white Mercedes-Benz truck, registration SSD 831AJ/SSD 832AJ, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration UFK 552W.
Preliminary findings indicate that the truck, which was transporting fish from South Sudan, developed a mechanical fault and was parked by the roadside.
However, while the driver reportedly switched on hazard lights, no warning triangle reflectors were placed—an omission police say may have contributed to the crash.
“A speeding motorcyclist from Awindiri side rammed into the rear of the stationary truck,” SSP Angucia said.
The rider, whose identity had not been established by press time, sustained serious injuries and was rushed for medical attention.

Police said the motorcycle was initially taken to a nearby residence before a Good Samaritan later delivered it to Arua Central Police Station.
A team of officers visited and documented the scene, placing road signs to alert other motorists. The truck remains at the scene pending towing for inspection.
The driver, who reportedly left to look for spare parts, had not yet returned by press time.
Police noted that preliminary investigations point to both reckless riding and improper road use.
“Both parties may have contributed to the accident—reckless riding by the motorcyclist and failure by the truck driver to properly secure and signal the vehicle,” Angucia said.
The case has been registered as TAR 055/2026 at Arua City Central Business Division, with investigations ongoing.
Police have since urged all road users to strictly observe traffic regulations, especially when dealing with broken-down vehicles, to prevent similar accidents.
