KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police at Matugga Division have recovered a rifle that was stolen during a robbery at Stabex Fuel Station in Namakonkome earlier this month.
The firearm, which belonged to a security guard attached to Knight Security, was taken during the March 9 robbery incident.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Rachael Kawala said the gun was recovered on Sunday, March 22 at around 11:00 AM in Namakonkome Cell, Gombe Division, Wakiso District.
Now, preliminary findings indicate that a local resident discovered the weapon while working in her garden and immediately alerted authorities.

“A resident found an object resembling a firearm and promptly notified police, leading to its recovery,” SP Kawala said while addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, March 23, 2026.
The rifle has since been secured as an exhibit as investigations into the robbery continue.
During the robbery attack, a group of assailants attacked the station premises in the early hours of March 9, armed with crude weapons, and robbed staff of cash and other items before fleeing the scene.
Police say efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the suspects involved in the incident.
The recovery marks a significant breakthrough in the case, which had raised security concerns following the theft of a firearm from a licensed guard.
