KAMPALA, UGANDA: Police have confirmed that Eid al-Fitr celebrations across Uganda were largely peaceful, with only a few isolated incidents reported during the festivities.
Deputy Police Spokesperson SSP Diana Nandawula said the country maintained a stable security environment on March 20, as Muslims marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“We congratulate the Muslim community upon the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan,” Nandawula said while addressing the media in Naguru on Monday.
She attributed the calm to cooperation between the public and security agencies, as well as coordinated deployments at key locations.

“We extend our appreciation to all Ugandans, especially the Muslim community, for the calm, discipline, and cooperation exhibited throughout the celebrations,” she said.
Police also commended security personnel for maintaining order at places of worship, shopping centres, and entertainment venues, which recorded high turnout during the Eid period.
Nandawula noted that traffic flow was effectively managed despite increased travel across the country. “We commend the security agencies for their coordinated efforts in ensuring safety and managing traffic during the busy period,” she added.
She further revealed that ongoing intelligence-led operations played a key role in maintaining stability, with more than 500 suspects arrested in the past week.
Police say such operations will continue as part of efforts to sustain law and order across the country.
