UFL Quarterfinals: Bugema, Kampala University clash in battle for last four

Bugema face a tough test against unbeaten Kampala University in the UFL quarterfinals, as top teams battle over two legs for a place in the semifinals of Uganda’s premier university football competition.

Bugema University players celebrate a goal during one of the team's recent University Football League matches this season.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: Bugema University will take on Kampala University in a high-stakes Pepsi University Football League (UFL) quarterfinal clash, with the first leg scheduled for Tuesday at Bugema.

The tie headlines a competitive quarterfinal lineup that will see top university teams battle over two legs for a place in the semifinals.

Bugema head coach Meddy Nyanzi expressed confidence ahead of the encounter, despite acknowledging the strength of their opponents.

“Currently, the Bugema team is strong. Though we have a red card, we remain good enough for Kampala University. We know their capabilities, and our players are technically good,” Nyanzi said.

Kampala University head into the fixture as favourites after finishing top of Group A with 13 points and maintaining an unbeaten record. The two-time champions will be aiming to assert their dominance early in the tie.

However, Nyanzi insists Bugema are ready for the challenge.

“We anticipated this kind of test and prepared well. Facing a strong opponent motivates our players, and we believe we can compete and progress,” he added.
