IGANGA, UGANDA: The Bulamagi Investment Forum (BIF) has mobilised at least Shs10 million to support a community-led malaria eradication campaign, as efforts intensify to eliminate the disease in the sub-county.
The funds were raised through contributions and pledges during a mobilisation meeting aimed at supporting the Busoga Malaria Eradication Programme spearheaded by the Busoga Health Forum (BHF). Organisers say a total of Shs130 million is required to fully implement the intervention.
The fundraising drive was coordinated by BIF Chairperson Balunywa Abudallah, who convened local leaders including LC1 and LC2 chairpersons, youth leaders, and village mobilisers to rally support.
The meeting was hosted at the residence of former Vice President Specioza Wandira Kazibwe, who also serves as Vice Chairperson of the forum.
Balunywa commended residents for their contributions and urged continued support toward the initiative. “We continue to call upon everyone to contribute whatever they can. Malaria has kept our communities in poverty due to the high cost of treatment. This is a collective fight we must all support,” he said.

Dr. Kazibwe expressed confidence in the role of young people in executing key interventions such as spraying and community mobilisation.
“The youth will play a critical role in ensuring the success of this programme within the shortest time possible. We must all remain committed and mobilise others to join the cause,” she said.
She noted that the campaign will involve indoor and outdoor spraying, alongside mass testing and treatment to break the cycle of reinfection.
According to BHF Chief Executive Mr Moses Kyangwa, the initiative builds on a proven malaria elimination model already applied in other areas. “Bulamagi is positioning itself to become the next malaria-free community in Busoga. This requires both financial resources and strong community commitment,” Kyangwa said.
The agreed strategy is anchored on four pillars: community mobilisation and mapping, mass vector spraying, mass testing and treatment, and data management and surveillance.
Bulamagi LC3 Chairperson-elect Wekiya Cyrus urged leaders and residents to take ownership of the campaign. “Malaria affects all of us. This is not a fight for a few individuals—it requires collective responsibility. We must all step forward and support this initiative,” he said.
