Suspected goat meat thief arrested with toy gun, blood-stained knife in Budaka

Police in Budaka have arrested a suspect found cooking stolen goat meat, recovering a toy gun, opium, and a blood-stained knife amid rising livestock theft cases.

Budaka, Uganda: Police in Kamonkoli Town Council have arrested a 25-year-old man found cooking suspected stolen goat meat, recovering a toy gun, opium, and a blood-stained knife during a house search.

The suspect, identified as Nampadu David, a resident of Nyanza B Cell in South Ward, was arrested on March 26, 2026, following a tip-off from relatives.

According to police, Nampadu was spotted at around midday cooking goat meat mixed with bananas while reportedly smoking, raising suspicion among family members.

His uncle, Kasozi Innocent, alerted another relative, Mutengeke Moses, who immediately informed police.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the suspect still preparing the meal in his kitchen before arresting him on the spot.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s house led to the recovery of several items, including a toy gun fashioned from sticks wrapped in black polythene, a new panga, a small blood-stained knife, opium wrapped in polythene, and unpeeled bananas.

Bukedi North Regional Police spokesperson ASP Wilfred Kyempasa confirmed that a case has been registered. “Police have registered a case of possession of suspected stolen goat meat under SD Ref: 11/26/03/2026,” Kyempasa said.

The scene was processed by officers from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), the Crime Intelligence Unit, and the Officer in Charge of the station.

The suspect is currently detained at Kamonkoli Police Station and is expected to be transferred to Budaka Central Police Station as investigations continue.

The arrest comes amid increasing cases of livestock theft in Budaka District, with residents reporting recent incidents, including the theft of seven goats from a local farm.

Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities involving livestock or illegal substances.
