Bukedea Eye Camp: Tycoon Sudhir donates UGX 50m, inducted into Teso community

Ugandan Business magnate Sudhir Ruparelia has announced a Shs50 million contribution to the Iteso Kingdom during the closing ceremony of the three-day Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp at Bukedea Teaching Hospital.

Bukedea, Uganda: Ugandan Billionaire Businessman and Philanthropist, Dr Sudhir Ruparelia has pledged UGX 50 million towards the Kingdom of Teso as he was officially inducted into the Iteso community during the closing ceremony of the Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp in Bukedea District.

The three-day medical outreach, held at Bukedea Teaching Hospital, attracted thousands of patients from across Eastern Uganda seeking treatment for various eye conditions.

Sudhir announced the financial contribution as part of ongoing efforts by the Ruparelia Foundation to support communities and strengthen partnerships with cultural institutions.

The donation was received with appreciation by the leadership of the Teso Kingdom, who commended the Ruparelia family for their continued philanthropic work.

In a symbolic gesture, the Emorimor of Teso, His Royal Highness Paul Sande Emolot III, inducted Sudhir and his wife, Jyotsna Ruparelia, into the Iteso community.

Sudhir was given the Iteso name “Eminat Sudhir”, marking his recognition and acceptance within the cultural institution.

The ceremony highlighted the strong bond between the Ruparelia Foundation and the people of Teso, especially through initiatives aimed at improving health and livelihoods.

Ambulance boost for Bukedea

During the same event, a brand-new ambulance was handed over to the people of Bukedea, donated by Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and Kachumbala County MP-elect David Beecham Okwere.

Leaders said the ambulance will strengthen emergency response and improve access to healthcare services in the district.

Eye camp impacts thousands

The Rajiv Ruparelia Memorial Eye Camp has emerged as one of the largest medical outreaches in the region, offering free screening, treatment, surgeries, and distribution of spectacles.

Officials say the initiative continues to transform lives by restoring sight and addressing preventable eye conditions among vulnerable communities.
