Gulu, Uganda: Cwero Health Centre III has emerged as the best-performing health facility in Gulu District, scoring 85 per cent in the latest district health performance review.
The rankings were announced during a district health review meeting held at Gulu District Council Hall, where officials assessed performance across all facilities.
Assistant District Health Officer Yoweri Idiba said Cwero’s top position was driven by consistent performance across key service delivery indicators.
“Cwero Health Centre III emerged the best overall. This reflects the effort the team has put into improving service delivery and maintaining standards,” Idiba said.
Awach Health Centre IV and Omel Health Centre III also scored 85 per cent, while Patiko Health Centre III followed with 73 per cent.
However, Idiba noted that Cwero’s consistency in reporting, patient care, and service delivery gave it the edge over its peers. “Performance is not only about numbers but also consistency. That is where Cwero stood out,” he added.
At the lower end of the rankings, Te-Ato Health Centre II scored 55 per cent, Pukony Health Centre II recorded 54 per cent, while Pugwinyi Health Centre III trailed with 47 per cent.
Health officials urged poorly performing facilities to address gaps and improve systems.

“The gaps are identifiable and can be addressed. We encourage improvement while best performers maintain momentum,” Idiba said.
Staff at Cwero Health Centre III attributed their success to strong teamwork and effective data management.
Nurse Atimango Emily said the facility prioritises accountability and continuous improvement. “Proper data management has helped us monitor performance and respond quickly where there are gaps. It is a team effort,” she said.
At Awach Health Centre IV, health workers credited their performance to a patient-focused approach, particularly for mothers and children.
“We closely follow up pregnant mothers and children to ensure they receive the attention they need. This has improved our outcomes,” said Kolong Patrick.
Gulu District has 16 health facilities, including nine Health Centre IIs, six Health Centre IIIs, and one Health Centre IV.
Officials say routine performance reviews are critical in strengthening accountability and improving healthcare delivery. “These reviews are meant to help us improve collectively. Our goal is to ensure every facility provides quality healthcare,” Idiba noted.
Health authorities say lessons from top-performing facilities like Cwero will be replicated across the district to improve overall service delivery.
