LIST: Umukuka donates 20 Tablets to journalists to support cultural reporting

The Umukuka of Bugisu has donated over 20 iPads worth UGX 60 million to journalists to support cultural reporting and data collection.

Mbale, Uganda: The Umukuka of Bugisu has donated over 20 iPad tablets valued at approximately UGX 60 million to journalists and media personalities to support cultural reporting across the region.

According to Bugisu Cultural Institution spokesperson Steven Masiga, the devices were initially provided by the Government of Uganda through the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) and later redistributed by the Umukuka to media practitioners.

Masiga said the gesture is aimed at strengthening cultural reporting and enhancing data capture within the Bugisu cultural institution.

“These are teams we worked with during the struggle to liberate this community culturally. This is a token of appreciation and support to enhance their work,” Masiga said.

He emphasised that the iPads are strictly meant for professional use in cultural reporting and should not be sold.

“Government property is not for sale. These devices should be used to support your work and serve the community better,” he added.
