Buyende, Uganda: The Minister for Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has welcomed a Chinese delegation to Buyende District, in a move aimed at unlocking investment opportunities and accelerating poverty reduction in the Busoga sub-region.

The delegation from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Service Co. Ltd. met district leaders at Bukungu Landing Site in Bukungu Town Council, where discussions focused on potential collaboration in infrastructure, industrialisation, and technology-driven development.

Babalanda, who is also MP-elect for Budiope West Constituency, said the engagement builds on Uganda’s growing ties with China following a recent official visit by Ugandan representatives to Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province.

“We are excited about the potential of this partnership to transform Buyende District and improve the lives of our people,” Babalanda said. “We are committed to creating a conducive environment for investment, and we welcome our Chinese friends to join us in this journey.”

She noted that lessons drawn from China’s rapid advancement in industrialisation, infrastructure, and technology could be instrumental in shaping Buyende’s development path.

The Minister reaffirmed her commitment to delivering on campaign pledges, particularly in improving livelihoods in Budiope West and the wider district.

The Chairman of Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Service Co. Ltd., Mr. Chen Wei, expressed optimism about investing in the area.

“We are impressed by the district’s potential and the government’s commitment to development. We look forward to working together to implement projects that will benefit the local community,” he said.

Babalanda also credited the prevailing peace and stability under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a key enabler for attracting investment to previously underserved regions.

The meeting was attended by several district leaders, including Deputy RDC Nakawala Naume and LC5 Chairperson Kanaku Michael, among others.

Local leaders described the engagement as a major step toward positioning Buyende as an emerging investment destination, with expectations that the partnership will spur job creation, infrastructure development, and improved household incomes.
