Buyende school closed after reports of alleged sexual abuse of pupils

Buyende District Inspector of Schools, Ms Tibiri Ruth, confirmed the development, saying the decision to close the school was taken to safeguard learners as investigations proceed.

Buyende, Uganda: Authorities in Buyende District have ordered the immediate closure of Talent Infant Nursery and Primary School following allegations that a teacher sexually abused several pupils.

The suspect, identified as Mugabi Joswa, 30, a teacher at the school, was arrested and is currently being held at Buyende Police Station as investigations continue.

The incident came to light after a Primary Four pupil reportedly informed her mother, Ms Fauzia Namwebya, about the alleged abuse.

According to police records, the matter was officially registered under SD/12/22/03/2026, prompting immediate action from authorities.

Buyende District Inspector of Schools, Ms Tibiri Ruth, confirmed the development, saying the decision to close the school was taken to safeguard learners as investigations proceed.

“We are deeply concerned about the allegations and have taken immediate action to close the school,” Tibiri said. “We will work closely with the police to ensure that justice is served and the suspect is held accountable.”

The closure has left parents and pupils distressed, with community members calling for swift investigations and accountability.

Education authorities say measures are being taken to ensure affected learners are protected and supported, while police continue gathering evidence.
