Gulu City, Uganda: Joint security teams have arrested several suspects and recovered weapons during a coordinated operation targeting criminal gangs in Gulu City.
The operation, conducted on March 24, 2026, covered Pece Prisons Cell, Kyenjere, and surrounding areas, known for heightened criminal activity.
According to Aswa-Gulu Regional Police Spokesperson Mr Ongom David Mudong, the intelligence-led operation successfully disrupted several criminal cells.
“Joint security teams comprising the Police and the Army conducted a well-coordinated operation that successfully disrupted several criminal cells operating within Pece Prisons Cell, Kyenjere, and surrounding areas,” Mudong said.
Those arrested include Ochola Desmon, Okot Emma, and another suspect identified only by the nickname “24.”

The suspects are currently detained at Gulu City East Policing Division as investigations continue.
Security operatives recovered several items believed to have been used in criminal activities, including 10 rounds of ammunition, a pair of police uniforms, bunches of keys, four pangas and four knives, housebreaking implements, four large padlocks, mattresses and two television sets.
Authorities say the recovered exhibits will aid ongoing investigations into organized crime networks in the area.
Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects still at large. “We remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of the public and urge members of the community to continue cooperating by providing information that may aid in the arrest of the remaining suspects,” Mudong added.
The crackdown comes amid heightened concern over criminal activity in parts of Gulu City, with authorities stepping up joint operations to dismantle gangs and restore public safety.
